The first Canyon Lake Veterinary Hospital "Hiking With Your Hound"Class was held on May 17, 2008. The group gathered in Canyon Lake Park to let the dogs and handlers all get to know each other, then we headed out to Stagebarn Canyon.
It was a beautiful day to be in the Hills--warm, sunny with not a snowflake or raindrop to be seen.(the first week's expedition was canceled due to bad weather).
Our hike was cut short because of some access problems, but the hikers and the dogs still enjoyed the experience. Several of the dogs had never been with a group of other dogs before and they did wonderful--not one growl or even a lip curl. It was as if the beauty of the Hills allowed them to transcend the usual dog to dog issues and they just wanted to enjoy the experience with their people. Perhaps we can all learn yet another lesson from our dogs. When God gives you a perfect day, some new friends and gorgeous scenery--enjoy the journey!
We are looking forward to our next hike on the Flume Trail--creeks to cross, birds to see and paths to explore with our new friends.
