The Rudy Tribune by Bob the Cat

Greetings!!!

Chuck and I are soooo happy that January is over. It was so cold and icky—we are sick of winter, that’s for sure. But our staff has been taking good care of us—our little beds are warm and cozy and the treats have been flowing.

So , here we are—headed into February. We know that the 14th is a special day for you humans. Something about Valentines Day, whatever that is. We heard that you like to give each other flowers and chocolates and that kind of stuff as a sign of your affection for each other.

It’s always my job to be an advocate for the pets in your life. We like special signs of affection too—but we prefer new toys, a big bag of treats and time on the couch watching TV with you. (Admittedly, Chuck and I don’t know what a couch is—or a TV for that matter—we lead a somewhat sheltered life here in the clinic.)

But according to the staff here, if you really want to show your pets how much you love them, take a peek in their mouths. You might be really surprised at what you find.

Did you know that 80% of cats and dogs have signs of dental disease by the age of 3? That’s very scary!

Here’s a little quiz for you:
1. How many “baby” teeth do puppies have?
2. How many permanent teeth do puppies have?
3. How many “baby” teeth do kittens have?
4. How many permanent teeth do kittens have?
5. What is the main cause of broken teeth in dogs?
6. What is the main cause of mouth pain in cats?
7. What is plaque?
8. What is tartar?( hint- it’s not sauce that you put on your fish sticks!)
9. All dogs have bad breath—true or false?
10. Large breed dogs have more dental disease than small breed dogs because they eat more—true or false?
